Installment Two
The Olympics ended yesterday with a roar as the United States and Canada faced off in the gold medal hockey game of the millenia! The closing ceremonies last night were so anticlimactic after that game that I barely watched them, and I'm an Olympic junkie. But even before that incredible finish, I was already pondering what I've learned from these Olympics. The answer is this...We all have greatness in us!
That's right, greatnesss is not just for the Olympians or professional athletes or famous entertainers or big business leaders. Each and every person is created by, and in the image of, the most genius creative genius of all time...God the Father. Genesis 1:27 "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." We are made in God's image and likeness. And we are given life with a purpose. Some are to be athletes. Some are to be teachers. Others are to be moms or dads. Some will preach. Some will save lives. Some will defend lives and ideals like freedom and democracy and the right to worship. It doens't really matter what you're here for.
What matters is that you embrace the fact that you are here for something, sent by the Creator of heaven and earth, to a specific time and place in history to accomplish whatever that something is. And you have greatness in you. You may not stand before crowds of cheering fans with a medal hung around your neck like the Canadian hockey team or the U.S. bobsled team, but you have greatness in you nonetheless. Discover your something and devote yourself to it. Do it with excellence and watch the greatness that God placed in you, come out of you.
