There are dozens of lessons to be learned from these 3 recent events, but I am going to focus on a few that have been resonating with me.
Lesson 1: Life Is Precious
Ok, so maybe that's not news to many people, but sometimes it's easy to forget in the midst of life's challenges just how precious it is. Check out Elijah, a prophet from the Old Testament. He was called by God to deliver God's messages to the people. That is a high calling and a privilege to say the least. But when Elijah entered into a time of serious trouble and trials he was ready to give it all up and die. 1 Kings 19:3-5 (NIV) "Elijah was afraid and ran for his life. When he came to Beersheba in Judah, he left his servant there, while he himself went a day's journey into the desert. He came to a broom tree, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. "I have had enough, LORD," he said. "Take my life..."" I wonder how many in Haiti were thinking the same thing on the day of the quake...then it hit and they fought desperately for the very lives they were despairing over just moments ago. Sadly, many lost that fight for their lives. But many held on and survived for days in the rubble and destruction. They realized in the moment they faced death that life is precious! They wanted to live. I feel confident saying that today those people who were in rubble trouble a month ago see life from a fresh perspective.
What rubble trouble are you in? Have you been tempted to say "take my life"? Jesus says "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10:10 (NIV) My hope and prayer is that you nor I will ever have to face death at point blank range to realize the value of life. Make the most of your circumstances today...whatever they are. Make the most of your opportunities and live the full life Jesus offer you. If you don't know how, email me at elevationchurchco@yahoo.com and I will help you make the most of your life today. Life is precious!
